It's the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored an exemplary 10/10 in our tests, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.
The X40, like other iRobot products, is easy to use. It comes with a simple mobile app interface that is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only real drawback is that it's an eerily noisy device which could be an issue if you use it in the morning before work, or at night when you try to sleep.
It's also a bit costly, but not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally capable and better looking. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's very capable however, it's more expensive and create more noise.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot vacuum and mop. It has a number of features that are advanced and will help you forget your chores. Like Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take charge of both mopping and vacuuming, with a multi-function dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank and cleans and dry its mop pads.
The smart robot employs an array of LIDAR and structured light to map out the floor plan and detect obstacles, making it more efficient than some of its premium competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazard detection however, it wasn't foolproof in our testing and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.
The vacuum cleaner comes with a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vacuum works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house according to the amount of dirt they tend to be.
If you have a larger home, it is worth selecting a robot that comes with zones or spot cleaning modes. This allows you to instruct the robot on which part of your house needs to be cleaned using the app or voice control. A stair mode can be useful if you have a number of furniture.
